Expungement
Expungement is the legal process of sealing your old criminal conviction(s) or case(s). If a case or charge is expunged, it will no longer appear on your official criminal history.
The benefits of this are quite obvious to those who have a conviction/charge that has been holding them back from employment opportunities, housing opportunities, or educational opportunities. If the charge is no longer on your criminal history, you may be able to treat it as if it never happened; Thus, opening up the opportunities which were previously closed to you.
It’s possible that an old arrest shows up on your criminal history even when the case was never filed by a prosecutor or it was laster dismissed by a prosecutor. Arrests may be eligible for expungement, as well as cases that were charged and later dismissed, and cases that resulted in convictions. If it appears on your criminal history, you may be able to have it expunged.
